A transparent guide to a product still in crowdfunding.
ROMA-X is designed to make home coffee roasting more visual, repeatable and connected. This page brings the most important product and campaign questions together in one place so that prospective backers can make a better-informed decision.
Important: A crowdfunding pledge supports a project in development; it is not the same as purchasing an in-stock retail product. Timelines and final details may change as production progresses.
Product basics
What is ROMA-X?
ROMA-X is a smart home coffee roaster designed for people who want freshly roasted coffee with both guided automation and hands-on control. It combines a touchscreen interface, preset roast profiles, manual heat and fan adjustment, app connectivity, visible roasting and automatic cooling in a home-focused appliance.
Is ROMA-X a coffee maker or espresso machine?
No. ROMA-X is a green coffee bean roaster. It roasts unroasted coffee beans; it does not grind beans or brew coffee. After roasting and resting the beans as appropriate, you still use your preferred grinder and brewing method.
How is ROMA-X different from traditional home roasters?
Traditional home roasting can rely heavily on observation and repeated trial and error. ROMA-X is designed to make roasting more visual, repeatable, connected and upgradeable through its touchscreen, preset curves, manual controls, app ecosystem, profile sharing, smoke management and chaff collection.
How much coffee can ROMA-X roast?
ROMA-X is designed to roast a full 300g / 10.6oz batch of green coffee, including dark roasts, without requiring the batch to be reduced to 250g.
What materials are used?
ROMA-X is presented as a premium home appliance using materials including anodized aluminum alloy with a brushed finish and a full-view glass roasting chamber. Final production specifications should always be checked against the latest campaign update.
How is the touchscreen protected from roasting heat?
The internal structure physically separates the electronics and circuit board from the hot-air path. Thermal-insulation materials are used to keep the display and electronics within their intended operating range. Heat management in the compact enclosure has been treated as a core engineering requirement.
Controls, app and roast profiles
Can beginners use ROMA-X?
Yes. Auto Mode and built-in roast profiles are intended to give new home roasters a guided starting point. Users can begin with automation and move toward Manual Mode and custom curves as their confidence grows.
Can experienced users control heat and airflow?
Yes. In Manual Mode, users can adjust heating power and fan speed through the 5-inch touchscreen or mobile app. The published Kickstarter FAQ states that adjustments and roast-curve plotting use 0.5-second resolution.
What temperature sensors does ROMA-X use?
ROMA-X uses two high-precision NTC temperature sensors. A Bean Temperature sensor sits inside the roasting chamber near the bean-circulation area. An Air Temperature sensor sits in the hot-air path near the heating element. Together, they provide feedback for curve display and automatic control; the current specification does not include moisture or pressure sensors.
What does “AI-assisted roasting” actually mean today?
During an automatic roast, ROMA-X compares the measured temperature curve with the selected target curve every 0.5 seconds. When batch size, room temperature or power conditions cause deviation, the control system adjusts heat and airflow to move the roast back toward the target. Future cloud learning and personalization are development directions—not features that should be presented as fully complete today.
How were the 266 initial roast profiles developed?
Mago Maga Coffee Lab first ran physical ROMA-X tests using dozens of coffee varieties, recorded roast curves and compared the results through cupping. Those experimental results were used as source data for algorithm-assisted prediction of additional starting profiles. The 266 profiles are intended as convenient starting points, not as a claim that one perfect curve exists for every bean or every palate.
Can ROMA-X work without the app or internet?
Yes. ROMA-X can be operated directly from its touchscreen without an app, cloud service, membership or internet connection. This includes core roasting controls.
Does the app require a paid subscription?
No subscription is required for normal ROMA-X use. According to the campaign FAQ, app control, custom roast profiles, roast records, firmware updates, full 300g capacity, Auto Mode, Manual Mode and touchscreen controls remain available without an annual membership. Any future membership would be for optional added services.
Can I create, save and repeat my own roast profiles?
Yes. Custom profiles can be created, edited, saved, reused and synchronized between the machine and app. This is designed to help turn a successful roast into a repeatable process.
How many custom profiles can I save?
The exact local-storage limit on the machine is still being finalized, but MAGO MAGA has stated that it will support at least several dozen custom profiles. App-side storage is expected to be effectively much larger, with profiles transferable to the machine through Bluetooth.
Does ROMA-X automatically detect first crack?
ROMA-X does not use a dedicated acoustic first-crack sensor. In Auto Mode, the system can predict the first-crack stage from roast data and display a notification on the touchscreen and mobile app. In Manual Mode, users can observe or listen for first or second crack and press a button to mark the event on the roast curve.
What do Bluetooth and OTA updates do?
Bluetooth supports communication between ROMA-X and the mobile app for monitoring, controls and profile synchronization. OTA updates are intended to deliver compatible firmware improvements and new profile-related features as the platform develops.
Will there be a desktop or browser version of the app?
The current product plan focuses on mobile apps for iOS and Android. A PC or browser version is not currently planned.
Can roast charts be exported as annotated PDFs?
PDF export and printing of annotated roast curves has been accepted as a development suggestion, but it should be described as a planned consideration, not a confirmed launch feature.
Roasting and daily use
Can ROMA-X roast to a dark level at 300g?
Yes. The official Kickstarter FAQ states that ROMA-X can roast a full 300g batch to a dark roast without reducing the batch size.
Can I roast consecutive batches?
MAGO MAGA generally recommends a maximum of three consecutive batches. After three batches, allow the machine to rest for at least 20 minutes before continuing to help protect internal components and maintain long-term reliability.
Does ROMA-X cool the beans automatically?
ROMA-X is designed with an automatic cooling stage so roasted beans can be cooled promptly after the roast. Cooling behavior and operating steps should follow the final production manual.
How does it handle smoke and chaff?
ROMA-X includes smoke-management and chaff-collection features intended for home roasting. The filter is reusable and should be brushed after each roast. The current design target is approximately 20 roasting cycles per filter, although performance gradually decreases with use. Replacement pricing will be announced before shipping. Roasting still produces aroma and some emissions, especially at darker levels, so follow the final ventilation guidance.
Is the glass roasting chamber removable for cleaning?
Yes. The glass chamber can be removed without screws or special tools. MAGO MAGA recommends a coffee-equipment cleaner such as Urnex or a mild food-safe dish soap for accumulated coffee oils and residue. Replacement filters, glass chambers and service parts are planned for sale through the official website.
Will ROMA-X be quieter than Roma Pro?
ROMA-X uses a high-speed brushless DC motor rather than Roma Pro’s brushed AC motor, together with revised airflow paths and noise-reduction engineering. MAGO MAGA expects noticeably lower and less harsh high-frequency noise, but final comparative decibel data is still pending pre-production testing. Never place your face or ear near a hot exhaust to listen for first crack.
Does ROMA-X support multiple languages?
The on-screen software is planned to support multiple languages. The final language list should be confirmed in campaign production updates.
Do I have to buy MAGO MAGA green coffee beans?
No. ROMA-X can roast suitable green coffee beans from other suppliers. MAGO MAGA’s optional bean add-ons are positioned as curated, multi-origin specialty tasting gift sets with reusable 300g storage cans and premium packaging, rather than low-cost bulk green coffee.
Kickstarter and crowdfunding
Is backing ROMA-X the same as buying an in-stock product?
No. A Kickstarter pledge supports a product project and is not the same as a conventional retail purchase. Manufacturing and fulfillment can involve delays, specification changes or other risks. Review the current campaign page, reward details and Kickstarter terms before pledging.
Where should I check the latest price and reward contents?
Always use the live ROMA-X Kickstarter campaign. Reward names, availability, prices, included items and campaign terms can change during a live campaign, so this FAQ should not replace the current reward description.
Can campaign specifications or timing change?
Yes. ROMA-X is still moving through crowdfunding, production and fulfillment. Reasonable changes may occur as engineering validation, certification, sourcing and manufacturing progress. Material changes should be communicated through official campaign updates.
How will backers receive production updates?
Backers should follow official Kickstarter updates and emails connected to their pledge account. These are the primary channels for production, certification, shipping and schedule announcements.
Delivery, shipping and support
When is ROMA-X expected to ship?
The official Kickstarter FAQ currently states that shipping is scheduled for December 2026, while actual delivery may take additional weeks depending on destination and logistics. Because this is crowdfunding, consult the newest campaign update for the current schedule.
Which countries can ROMA-X ship to?
MAGO MAGA states that it offers worldwide shipping. Final delivery availability, shipping charges, customs handling and destination limitations depend on the complete address and the campaign’s current shipping terms.
Will the correct voltage version be available?
Electrical appliances must match local voltage and plug requirements. Confirm the available ROMA-X voltage option and your selected version in the campaign survey or pledge details before fulfillment. Never connect a 120V unit to an incompatible 220–240V supply, or vice versa.
What warranty is planned?
MAGO MAGA’s official Kickstarter FAQ states a one-year warranty. Crowdfunding pledges are serviced according to the campaign terms and platform rules, with support from MAGO MAGA.
How can I contact MAGO MAGA?
