I wanted to leave a fair review of the Roma Pro V1.5. I bought it as a gift for a friend who is really into coffee, and he was very happy with it.
Overall, I think it’s a solid and fairly easy-to-use home coffee roaster, but it is important to follow the instructions. The AUTO mode is convenient, but you do need to use the recommended batch size, such as 150g or 300g depending on the setting. If the bean weight is off, the roast result may not be as consistent, which makes sense because different amounts of beans need different heat and airflow.
For everyday roasting, the AUTO mode works well. For anyone who wants to aim for a specific temperature or fine-tune the roast more closely, the manual mode is the better option. Coffee beans can vary a lot by origin, density, moisture level, and even room temperature, so having control over heat and fan speed is useful.
I also like the glass roasting chamber because you can actually watch the color of the beans change during the roast. The chaff separation works well too and helps reduce some smoke and mess. That said, roasting coffee will still create some smoke and aroma. If you want to keep things cleaner indoors, using it under a kitchen range hood is a smart idea.
This is not a completely “press one button and forget it” machine. There is a small learning curve at first, such as understanding the lid position, making sure the bean release chute is locked, and using the correct bean weight for the selected mode. After a few batches, it becomes much easier.
Overall, I think it’s a good home coffee roaster as long as you use it properly and take a little time to learn the basics.
