With the Roma Pro V1.6, many everyday roasts can be completed in under 10 minutes, followed by automatic cooling. Whether you are new to home coffee roasting or want more control over flavor development, the Roma Pro offers both preset and manual roasting modes.
Follow this guide to begin your home roasting journey.
Before your first roast, read the official Roma Pro user manual and confirm that the voltage of your machine matches your local power supply.
Step 1: Prepare and Weigh Your Green Coffee Beans
The Roma Pro V1.6 is designed specifically for roasting green coffee beans in small batches.
Use a digital scale to weigh the beans accurately before every roast. Correct batch weight is especially important in Auto Mode because each preset is designed around a recommended amount of coffee.
Recommended batch sizes
- Auto Levels 1–2: approximately 150g of green coffee beans
- Auto Levels 3–5: approximately 300g of green coffee beans
- Manual Mode: flexible batches from approximately 80g to 300g
Always follow the current instructions supplied with your machine. Do not exceed the maximum capacity, as overloading can restrict hot-air circulation and lead to uneven roasting or overheating.
If you need coffee for your first batch, explore our selection of green coffee beans.
Important: The Roma Pro roasts green coffee beans. It does not grind beans or brew coffee, and no other food or material should be placed inside the roasting chamber.

Step 2: Choose Auto Mode or Manual Mode
Once the machine is correctly assembled and powered on, choose the roasting mode that matches your experience and goals.
Auto Mode: For Beginners and Everyday Roasting
Auto Mode offers five preset roast levels:
- Light
- Light Medium
- Medium
- Medium Dark
- Dark
In general, lighter settings are more likely to preserve bright acidity, fruit, and floral aromas. Darker settings tend to produce more body, bitterness, and pronounced roasted flavors.
These descriptions are guidelines, not guaranteed tasting notes. The final flavor will also depend on the origin, variety, processing method, density, and moisture content of the green coffee.
After selecting the appropriate level and using its recommended batch weight, start the roast and allow the automatic program to manage the main heating and cooling stages.

Manual Mode: For Greater Roasting Control
Manual Mode is designed for users who want to adjust the roast as it develops.
It provides:
- Heat control: Levels 1–18
- Fan control: Levels 1–18
- Real-time monitoring: Observe temperature and bean development on the display
- Visual monitoring: Watch the beans change color through the glass chamber
- Audible feedback: Listen for first crack and other changes during roasting
Manual Mode is recommended for decaffeinated, unusually dense, or specially processed green coffees because these beans may behave differently from regular coffee in an automatic program.
If you are still learning how heat, airflow, and first crack relate to a roast, a saved coffee roast profile can be used as a reference. However, always adjust according to the actual behavior of the beans.

Step 3: Allow the Automatic Cooling Cycle to Finish
Coffee continues to develop from retained heat after the main roasting stage ends. Rapid cooling helps slow this process and reduces the risk of the beans becoming darker than intended.
The Roma Pro’s integrated cooling system is designed to bring the bean temperature down to approximately 55°C within a short period.
Wait until the cooling cycle is complete before opening the bean outlet and releasing the roasted coffee.
The hot-air system and chaff collector are designed to provide an ultra-low-smoke roasting experience, but the machine should not be described as completely smoke-free. Smoke levels can vary depending on the roast level, bean type, batch size, chaff accumulation, and ventilation.
Always operate the roaster in a clean, well-ventilated indoor area.

Step 4: Release, Clean, and Store the Beans
After cooling is complete, use the bean-release mechanism to dispense the roasted beans.
Empty the removable chaff collector after every roast. Chaff accumulation can reduce airflow and increase smoke, overheating, or fire risk.
Before cleaning:
- Turn off and unplug the machine.
- Allow all components to cool completely.
- Remove loose chaff and coffee residue.
- Follow the cleaning instructions in the official manual.
- Never immerse the machine in water.
- Do not place the appliance or its components in a dishwasher unless the manual explicitly identifies a component as dishwasher-safe.
Store freshly roasted beans in a clean, airtight coffee container, preferably with a one-way degassing valve. Allowing the beans to rest can help carbon dioxide escape and flavors stabilize.
The ideal resting time varies according to roast level, coffee, and brewing method, so taste the coffee over several days to find the point you prefer.
